Good luck! I can confirm the behavior is exactly as what nuko8 described on OSX using Homebrew: It is possible that this was pre-built as a "bottle" with the wrong flags, so Homebrew users would need to rebuild from source brew install -s vim or ensure that their cached vim bottle is gone.

Getting Vim with `+clipboard` support

I am able to replicate exactly as the subject on this issue: This is only a behavior on terminal Vim both iTerm and terminal applications That's because MacVim is built with --enable-darwin default and doesn't rely on any bit of XQuartz. The following version of homebrew worked for me: Sign up for free to join this conversation on GitHub. The reason for this is because I can then forward my X11 session to the systems I ssh into and have Vim on those systems copy to my clipboard!
This works great in a Vagrant setup as welll, you just need to set config. Since you're running OS X, you don't have an X11 server running. The solution to this is to run XQuartz installer for it is there.
Mac OS X clipboard sharing
After you've installed it, make sure that your preference pane is set up like this this step is vital! The last item 'Update Pasteboard immediately when new text is selected' is not selected by default which I didn't know was necessary in order to have vim copy to clipboard. To check if they're enabled, run vim --version and you should see two items in there that have plus signs next to them: Sign up or log in Sign up using Google.
